Famous Ukrainian theater artist, painter. People's Artist of Ukraine (1994). Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine. T. Shevchenko (1996). Born in St. Petersburg in the family of an outstanding Ukrainian artist G. Narbut. From 1933-1935 he studied at the All-Union courses for theater artists at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Pupil of F. Krichevsky and A. Khvostenko-Khvostov. He worked in theaters in Kiev, Kovel, Kolomyia. Since 1961 the chief artist of Ivano-Frankivsk, then Cherkassk musical and drama theaters. Author of a series of paintings "Kievan Rus" (1980-1989) and a series of portraits "Hetmans of Ukraine" (1992-1995). The artistic heritage of D. Narbut is now in many museums in Ukraine and private collections around the world.
